About the trail
Eiffel peak is one of many hikes in the Jasper and Banff national parks of Alberta Canada. This hike starts with a beautiful woodsey trail that eventually leads to a shale-rock mountain that overlooks the Canadian rockies.
The story
We flew from San Francisco to Vancouver where we spent a few days there before renting a tent-car and driving our way to Calgary along the Jasper and Banff parks. Along the way we stayed in a mix of hotels and campsites. One day, partway through the drive from Jasper to Banff, we started the hike of Eiffel peak. The weather had been spotty throughout the trip but this day started off beautifully! We enjoyed a great hike most of the way up the mountain. About 75% of the way up we took a break to eat, drink, and acclimatize to the altitude. Unfortunately, while we rested a storm rolled in with winds that were sliding us around on the shale rocks. We began an early descent wherein we would occasionally hunker down to wait for the wind to subside. Eventually, we made it all the way back down to our car and continued our trip!
