About the trail
Cinque Terre is a group of 5 towns along the Italian coast that everyone can access via ferry or train. Between these towns you can hike between some cliff edges and vineyards at your leisure, stopping at the different towns for food, drink, and photos of the "Cats of Cinque Terre".
The story
We were staying at a different town along Italy's coast and wanted to visit Cinque Terre. We started the day with a train to the southernmost town, Riomaggiore, and took our time exploring. We visited the next two towns, taking the train each time, until we visited Corniglia where Abby tried anchovies for the first time in a delicious bruschetta dish while overlooking the coast. From there we got tired of taking the train and decided to hike from Corniglia to Vernazza on a well traveled trail, continuing to admire the waters to our left. Once in Vernazza we were able to hop into a sheltered inlet to cool off and have a pleasant swim. From there Abby wanted to continue the hike on to Monterosso, however, we had a reservation at the same time we would arrive and Richard advised against it. We opted to take the train instead of arriving to the restaurant very sweaty.
